MLA Formatting

In American Experience, we'll ask to to format your essays using MLA style guides.  We do this basically to provide some structure for our writing, and to familiarize you with formatting guidelines before you get to college, when you'll have to do it all the time, and to help you avoid plagiarism.  

There are three major parts of MLA formatting, the Essay Header, the In-Text Citations, and the Works Cited Page.  You can find the Essay Header information below.  Click the links on the right hand side of the page for the In-Text Citations and the Works Cited Information and for information about how to avoid plagiarism.

MLA Formatting:  Essay Headers

When formatting your essay, please use MLA formatting.  

MLA formatting asks that you
--Double space your text
--Center the title of your essay
--Use one inch margins
--Have a heading with your name, your instructor's name(s), the name of your class, and the due date of the assignment.
